Monday Muses

Monday Muses
The Snowy Day

This was one of me and my brothers favorite picture books when we were little and I remember always listening to my mom read it to us all year round. I think I loved this book so much because of the illustrations, and I’m not sure how I admired them at such a young age but the pictures made me love it even more. I could relate to the child in the story because I loved snow (and still do). I would play outside all the time in the winter with my brother and in a way we could relate to everything Ezra Jack Keats wrote. I remember whenever I woke up in the winter and it was snowing I would feel like the character and act as if I was the little boy in the red snowsuit. It was always fun to read and it will always be a favorite.
The illustrations really made a difference in my mind. It was colorful and fun, showed that the child was happy. The snow wasn’t very detailed and I guess made it delicate in a way and I liked that. Snow was always something to look forward to when I was younger.
I could obviously connect to the feelings that the child in this book had, and I loved how I felt I could relate to him. I guess its part of the fact that I loved snow and it was a big part of my childhood. I would always play in the snow whenever I could and it is what I think of and look forward to when winter comes.

This is one of my favorite picture books and I love the way I could relate to it.

  1. I like how you really connected what the book is about to what the book means to you specifically. I also think that you did a good job with incorporating memories that are linked to the text, and giving details on the illustrations.
